2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now overhauling the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.
The news follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete text from the president's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to ahead.
David

Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that evolve every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
The game does not have an confirmed release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as production progresses.
